Dear Chief Svetanics,

Please share with your crew my appreciation for their efforts in helping to protect the

children of St. Louis County through distribution of car seats and helmets provided by
the St. Louis County Department of Health. Lemay Fire Protection District is doing a
wonderful job of distributing these safety items and completing and returning the

paperwork needed to obtain continued funding. I thought you might be interested in

learning how your efforts compare to the other six collaborative fire departments.

Lemay was the first department to enter into a collaborative partnership with the
DOH to distribute child safety seats. Our partnership is now in its' second year. To date your
department has distributed 35 (11/37) of all the car seats distributed by collaborating
fire districts. During the first quarter of the current grant year, Lemay distributed 42

(6 of 14) of all seats distributed by the seven collaborating fire departments.

Of the seven fire departments currently partnering with the DOH, Lemay is the only one
distributing helmets on an ongoing basis. In the first quarter of the current grant year,
Lemay Fire Protection District was the only fire department to distribute ANY helmets.
A grand total of 137 helmets were distributed in the first quarter. Your fire department
distributed 51 (70) of those helmets, two community groups held functions where the
remaining 49 (67) were distributed.

Again, on behalf of the St. Louis County Department of Health please accept my thanks
for working with us to decrease the rate of unintentional childhood injury related to the

lack of use, or improper use of child safety seats and helmets. Your expertise and your
willingness to invest time in this project are appreciated.
