Draft Minutes Board of Directors Meeting 10/19/04


General Board Meeting called to order at 7:01 p.m. by President Mr. Stonebraker. Present were Directors Mr. Stonebraker, Mr. Schloss, Mr. Bettag and Chief Svetanics. There was one Citizen of the District present.

Pledge of allegiance led by Aaron Herr.

Mr. Bettag made one addition to the agenda 8.10 on Health Insurance. Motion by Mr. Schloss to accept the agenda, 2nd by Mr. Stonebraker, roll call vote, all ayes.

Motion by Mr. Stonebraker to accept minutes from general sessions of September 20, 2004, and September 29, 2004, 2nd by Mr. Bettag, roll call vote, all ayes.

Mr. Bettag gave the treasurer’s report for the month ending September 30, 2004. Mr. Bettag reported the District received $36,967.31 in tax revenue for the month of September.

Mr. Bettag confirmed that we collected $36,053 in ambulance fees for the month of September, which is above the monthly budgeted amount. Mr. Bettag reported that we are still doing well. Motion by Mr. Stonebraker to accept the treasurer’s report, 2nd by Mr. Schloss, roll call vote, all ayes.

Chief Svetanics reported on the Open House held on October 9 as being a huge success with a great turnout of citizens. Chief Svetanics confirmed that the District gave out 36 bicycle helmets thanks to the donation of helmets by the St. Louis County Health Department. Chief Svetanics stated that we are thankful to the members of the Box 8 Club, which provided hotdogs, soda and chips, along with the supplies and manpower needed to provide this meal to attendees of the open house. We also invited the on-duty staff of neighboring districts, who responded with great enthusiasm. Chief Svetanics stated that we could not have asked for better attendance.

Chief Svetanics reported that we are in the hiring process now that Public Information Officer Ron Harder is leaving to take another position. Pvt. Harder was with the District 13 years and will be sorely missed, not only as a

firefighter and brother, but as an excellent safety educator. These qualities afforded him the opportunity to attend the National Fire Academy in 2003. Applications are being accepted through November 1, 2004.

Chief Svetanics read from a thank-you card written by a citizen wherein she credits the crew with rescuing her mother after an apartment fire.

Chief Svetanics also reported that October 24 thru the 30, 2004 is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. Lemay is one of 12 municipalities in St. Louis County designated as being at high-risk for Lead Poisoning by the Missouri Department of Health and states that even low levels can contribute to behavior problems, attention deficit, learning disabilities, lower I.Q., hearing loss, kidney damage and other life-long problems. Parents should have yearly blood lead tests performed on children less than 6 years of age.

Monthly reports presented on training by each crew member, maintenance report, fire incident report and summary, ambulance statistics, lockbox monthly credit report, community services report, wage report, South County Fire Alarm Association Minutes and St. Louis Metro Fire District Alliance Minutes.

Motion by Mr. Bettag to increase monthly contributions to the Medical Fund by $15,283 a year for health insurance coverage. The district will implement this increase effective January 1, 2005, 2nd by Mr. Stonebraker, roll call vote all ayes.

Next general meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. The regular open meeting for bill discussion scheduled for Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 3:30 p.m.

There were no public comments or questions.

Motion by Mr. Schloss to adjourn general board meeting at 7:50 p.m., 2nd by Mr. Stonebraker, roll call vote, all ayes.
