Minutes Board of Directors Meeting 1/21/04

The General Board Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Mr. Stonebraker. Present were Directors Mr. Stonebraker, Mr. Schloss and Mr. Bettag, Chief Svetanics, Fire Fighters Lt. Michalski, Pvt. Harder, Pvt. Jegel and Pvt. Schwenk, Scout Troop #473, and Citizens from the District.

Pledge of allegiance led by Scout Jared Schaefer of Troop #473.

Mr. Stonebraker made a motion to accept the agenda, 2nd by Mr. Schloss. Roll call vote, all ayes.

Motion by Mr. Schloss to accept the minutes from the closed executive sessions of December 5, 2003 and December 18, 2003, and the minutes from the general sessions of December 16, 2003 and December 22, 2003, 2nd by Mr. Stonebraker. Roll call vote, all ayes.

Mr. Bettag gave the treasurer’s report for the month ending December 31, 2003. Mr. Bettag stated that the District finished 3% over budget for Year 2003. Motion by Mr. Schloss to accept the treasurer’s report, 2nd by Mr. Stonebraker. Roll call vote, all ayes.

Chief’s Report: Chief Svetanics reviewed the training records, maintenance report, pumper statistics and ambulance statistics. Chief Svetanics reported that South County Fire Alarm is in the process of hiring a new director. The new District evaluation procedure will start in February. The District has received 4 applications for the Captain’s position. The application deadline is March 1, 2004. Chief Svetanics reported that the District received a FEMA reimbursement of $997.50 for aid we gave to DeSoto, Missouri after a storm earlier this year. Chief Svetanics stated that we have installed 141 child safety car seats since the beginning of the year to not only citizens of Lemay but for residents of other counties from as far away as Fenton, Festus and Columbia, Illinois. Chief Svetanics stated he is working with Union 2677 regarding contract negotiations and the Memorandum of Understanding.

Pvt. Harder reported that St. Louis County would like to form a partnership with Lemay Fire Protection District to have LFPD as a car seat installation site. The partnership would be with Metro South Car Seat and St. Louis County Health Department. Lemay Fire Protection District will receive 20 to 25 new car seats to replace defective car seats. The Smoke Detector Program is still a popular program. The Lemay Fire Protection District would also participate in a bicycle helmet safety program. The District would receive between 100 to 150 free helmets.

Lt. Doug Michalski reviewed the ambulance statistics and indicated that we received 1609 calls, which is more than last year.

Mr. Bettag indicated he is concerned about the revenue of $22,121.60 for the month from Gateway, since it is lower than previous months. Mr. Bettag stated the District received a letter from State Auditor Claire C. McCaskill the District ‘s audit should be submitted by June 30 each year as required by Section 321.690 RSMo.

Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. The regular open meeting for bill discussion is scheduled for February 24, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.

During public comments, Troop #473 thanked the Lemay Fire Protection District for serving as a collection site for the can food drive.

Motion by Mr. Stonebraker to adjourn the General Board meeting at 7:30 p.m., 2nd by Mr. Bettag. Roll call vote, all ayes.
