            General Board Meeting called to order at 3:10 p.m. by President Mr. Schloss.  Present were Directors Mr. Schloss, Mr. Bettag and Mr. Meyer, Chief Svetanics and Ms. Vincent.  There were no Citizens present. 

 

            Mr. Bettag made a motion to make one addition to the agenda, No. 8.11 – discussion on the health insurance task force, 2nd by Mr. Meyer, roll call vote Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Bettag aye, and Mr. Meyer aye.  Motion by Mr. Bettag to approve the amended agenda as presented, 2nd by Mr. Meyer.  Roll call vote Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Bettag aye, Mr. Meyer aye. 

 

            Motion by Mr. Meyer to accept the minutes from the general sessions of December 5, 2007, December 13, 2007 and December 20, 2007, and the executive session of December 5, 2007, as printed, 2nd by Mr. Bettag, roll call vote Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Bettag aye, Mr. Meyer aye. 

 

            Mr. Meyer gave the treasurer’s report for the month ending December 31, and year end 2007. 

 

            Mr. Meyer reported that revenue collected through the lockbox in December was $31,930, right on budget for the month, and total collections for the year came in over budget at $339,634.  Mr. Meyer stated that the District has made early investments into 7 new CD’s with the tax revenue and rolled over one previous CD, all due in June so that we can take advantage of higher interest rates.

 

            Mr. Meyer stated that actual expenditures for the twelfth month of the year are at 94.6%, or lower than what we set for the budget for the year.  

 

Mr. Meyer reported that we collected $795,286 in tax revenue in the month of December.

 

            Motion by Mr. Bettag to accept the treasurer’s report as presented, 2nd by Mr. Meyer, roll call vote Mr. Schloss aye, Mr. Bettag aye, Mr. Meyer aye. 

 

Chief Svetanics reported that he, Captain Schuessel and Lt. Heidbreder went to Snyder, Nebraska to the Smeal Company for a pre-construction conference on building the new pumper.

Chief Svetanics reported that we had one serious house fire and two separate vehicular accidental deaths and that it has been a very busy month so far this year.

 

            Chief Svetanics stated that the District was represented by Captain Jegel at a meeting with the Casino builders and St. Louis County and that the target date for opening is now set for the second quarter of 2009.

 

            Chief Svetanics finished his report with information on roof repairs and that the BBQ pit had to be rebuilt by Laclede Gas.

 

            Monthly reports presented on training by each crew member, maintenance report, fire incident report and summary, ambulance statistics, ambulance monthly lockbox report and MediClaims report, community services report, wage report, South County Fire Alarm Association’s Treasurer’s report, Letter from City of Shrewsbury’s Fire Chief, Letter from State Representative Patricia M. Yeager, Letter from Lemay Chamber of Commerce and a thank-you letter from a Citizen of Lemay.

 

            Next general meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.  The regular open meeting for bill discussion will be on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. 

 

            Addition to agenda:  No. 8.11 - Discussion on health insurance taskforce.  Captain Bertelsmeier was called to join the meeting in progress at 4:23 p.m.  When asked who Local #2677 voted as the representatives for the taskforce, Captain Bertelsmeier reported that Local #2677’s Executive Board, Captain Bertelsmeier, Captain Jegel and Pvt. Lewellen will be the three voting for the members.  Mr. Michael Butz will meet with the Board and the taskforce to discuss health savings accounts and other options on February 7, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
